The Departed Trailer
The Departed tells the story of the Irish mob in Boston headed up by Francis Costello. In the film, Costello is supposed to represent real-life Irish crime boss Whitey Bulger. The film deals with the ideas of loyalty, sacrifice and identity--all themes that are relevant to Irish mob activity in South Boston today. Check it out.

What a FANTASTIC movie. The Departed shows just how much of a problem mob activity in Boston is. I personally had no idea there was an active Irish mob was in existence until the release of this film.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from the movie, "Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself." proves just how intense of a film it is. The movie is amazing and everyone should watch it.
Also, the theme song rocks, "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys. Download it!
Elizabeth and Slainte,
ReplyDeleteIf you enjoy movies about the mob, check out Martin Scorsese's "Casino" starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone. It provides a glimpse at Las Vegas in 1970s before the major corporations entered and how the Italian mob's empire came crashing down as the 1980s approached. I would highly recommend it. De Niro and Pesci are at their peaks, plus it gives an authentic account of the Italian mob and their dealings (based on a true story). Enjoy and let me know what you think of the film!
